Aquatab Donation in DR Congo

Mission in DR Congo

November 2008

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is the site of arguably the worst humanitarian crisis in the world. Since 1998, 5.4 million have died in the DRC directly or indirectly as a result of the conflict. Though the civil war officially ended in 2003, serious conflict re-ignited recently, exasperating disease and hunger.

The recent fighting has displaced hundreds of thousands along the eastern border of the country. The poor sanitary conditions of the displaced are causing cholera outbreaks and other water borne diseases. GlobalMedic is delivering an initial response of 2.8 million Aquatab Water Purification Tablets. The Aquatabs will purify 2.8 million litres of clean drinking water for those displaced by the conflict.

The tablets will be distributed by partner organizations operating inside the affected region.
