GlobalMedic deployed its Rapid Response Team to Padang, Indonesia in response to the devastating earthquake. GlobalMedic, in partnership with several local partners including Yayasan Dian Desa and Barindo, deployed 7 members of its Rapid Response Team (RRT) to Indonesia. The RRT deployed its Search and Rescue (SAR) unit along with its Emergency Water Purification team. The SAR unit assisted rescue teams from around the world in the clearance of structures destroyed by the earthquake.
The Emergency Water Purification team distributed 1.5 million Aquatab water purification tablets (capable of purifying 1.5 million litres of clear water), installed 2 Nomad water purification units (capable of providing up to 140,000 people per day with clean drinking water) and 15 Trekker water purification units (capable of providing 15,000 people per day with clean drinking water). Additionally, GlobalMedic deployed one 22’ by 42’ Inflatable Field Hospital, one 25 foot inflatable Field Clinic, and one 20 foot inflatable Field Clinic with the collective capacity to restore medical infrastructure for tens of thousands.
Members of GlobalMedic’s South East Asian Field Office, based in Yogyakarta, have been deployed to the areas surrounding the quake’s epicentre to perform a comprehensive needs assessment. Once the initial reconnaissance is completed, GlobalMedic will determine the nature and scale of its response.
