Immediate need for water, food, relief commodities and shelter are required as many people are sleeping outdoors in fear of aftershocks. The U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that the chief minister of Balochistan Province had issued a press release on October 30 requesting assistance for emergency interventions, as well as rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts. According to the U.N. World Health Organization (WHO), preliminary assessment results indicate that the earthquake damaged 10 of the 38 health facilities in Ziarat District, with three basic health units completely destroyed. Earthquakes inevitably compromise water sources; therefore the contaminated drinking water will result in communicable disease such as diarrhea. GlobalMedic has identified clean drinking water as a major requirement for those in need.
GlobalMedic has shipped 48,000 Oral Rehydration Sachets which will be distributed to those suffering from dehydration. GlobalMedic has also shipped 1.4 million Aquatab water purification tablets which will produce 1.4 million litres of clean drinking water.
GlobalMedic is also exploring the possibility of deploying winterized shelters for those who lost their home as a result of the earthquake.
