In response to an earthquake measuring 7.9 on the Richter Scale, Global Medic has sent a three member team to the region to provide assistance to those in need. The team consists of two Police Officers and one water technician. The Officers, John Grima (Retired) and Glen Turpin, both members of the Ontario Volunteer Emergency Response Team (OVERT) were deployed with their search and rescue dogs Rohan and Barak. They worked in the area of Pisco for days clearing streets and buildings and recovering cadavers. The dogs and their handlers worked in close conjunction with Spanish, Colombian, Bolivian and Peruvian teams in a coordinated effort to clear the town for the safety and peace of mind of all residents. In addition, the team donated water purification gear and medicines. 10 Trekker water purification units were donated to local hospitals, health posts and Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps.
