Floods In Guatemala

Mission in Guatemala

November 2008

GlobalMedic has responded to the devastating floods in Guatemala. The team is on the ground, training local organizations and communities on the operation of donated water purification units and distributing water purification tablets.

On Wednesday, November 5th, the team installed a Trekker water purification unit in the village of Aldet Sioux. This village has been suffering from the floods since October 16th yet has received virtually no aid. The village is inaccessible by car due to the torrential downpour. The communal wells have become contaminated, forcing the villagers to drink dirty water. The team installed the Trekker at the village church and trained community leaders on its operation and maintenance. The Trekker has the capacity to provide 1,000 people with clean drinking water everyday.
