Devastated by floods in January of 2005, many parts of the country and its capital remained underwater for several weeks. Several health facilities reported extensive damage to their equipment. Outbreaks of communicable diseases occurred. DMGF responded by shipping over $50,000 dollars worth of medical equipment to Guyana .
In March of 2005, a second shipment of medical goods including hospital beds, bedside tables, crash carts, stretchers, and 400 boxes of consumable medical supplies was dispatched to the region.
DMGF is exploring other options of providing assistance including dispatching a medical team to the region and shipping more medical aid.
