Update - August 25, 2010
Recognizing a great need in the Southern Provinces of Pakistan, on August 18th GlobalMedic's RRT set up operations in the Muzzafa Ghar district of Punjab Province, one of the hardest hit areas by the recent flooding. Specifically, we are set up in the city of Diera Deen Panah, immediate home to 40,000 people, and 90,000 in the surrounding areas. GlobalMedic medic is providing clean drinking water and primary health care.
We have installed a 22' by 42' inflatable field hospital which is treating between 900 - 1000 patients daily. Our hospital has replaced the Rural Health Center which was damaged by the floods and is inoperable. Our hospital is located 5 minutes away which allows beneficiaries to reach a central location, and gives access to a larger population.
In addition to providing primary health care, we have set up a water distribution network to provide over 30,000 flood affected peoples with clean drinking water daily. This is being done through the installation of a Nomad water purification system which is adjacent to our hospital. Beneficiaries gather water from our site at the point of distribution. Water trucks also tanker out clean drinking water daily to populations who do not have immediate access to our distribution point, and reach remote communities of people.
We have additionally installed 9 Trekker water purification units in mosques and schools where displaced people have taken refuge, as well as small informal relief camps that are not receiving access to clean drinking water.
We will continue to work side by side with our local partner Islamic Help UK, to provide the maximum number of beneficiaries with aid.

Severe flooding in northwest Pakistan has affected over 3 million people, caused 1,400 deaths and swept away hundreds of communities. This monsoon flood is the worst on record, and with more rain expected throughout the region, the situation is likely to worsen in coming days.
There is an urgent need for water, food, shelter and emergency medical services throughout Nowshera, Charsadda, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Dera Ismail Khan and Tank districts, and outbreaks of water-borne illness are a pressing concern. Many communities are becoming increasingly isolated by rising water levels, and rescue efforts are underway to move the most vulnerable families to safe zones.
GlobalMedic is deploying 3 members of its Rapid Response Team to Pakistan in response to the disaster. They will carrying with them water purification units to provide up to 73,000 people daily with clean drinking water, as well as enough water purification tablets and sachets to purify over 3.5 million litres of water. Additionally, we will be sending an initial consignment of over 110,000 sachets of ORS which will provide 9000 patient treatments for severe dehydration as a result of drinking contaminated water.
GlobalMedic has provided life saving aid several times in Pakistan, and is committed to saving the lives of victims in the aftermath of this major flooding.
