Toronto, Canada
Over 2 million people are currently displaced in northwest Pakistan due to a military offensive against the Taliban which began in late April. The movement and displacement of innocent people who resided in the Swat Valley is being regarded as one of the largest exoduses of people in recent memory. While 90% of those displaced are with host families, these households have been stretched to the brink and are in desperate need of life-saving aid. Unfortunately, this crisis has not been communicated to the world at large leaving humanitarian aid agencies with the difficult choice of abandoning the relief effort.
GlobalMedic is deploying water purification supplies to northwest Pakistan which will provide clean drinking water for tens of thousands of those affected. In addition, GlobalMedic is donating medical supplies which will treat those suffering from severe dehydration due to water-borne diseases. On Friday, June 26th, GlobalMedic’s Rapid Response Team volunteers loaded the donation to be shipped.
GlobalMedic would like to thank Arif Shaikh of Care Insurance and members of the Pakistani community in the Greater Toronto Area who donated to the cause and helped to make this donation happen. Donations are still requested in order for GlobalMedic to send more aid to Pakistan.
