GlobalMedic has introduced the use of innovative UAV technology to bridge this crucial gap following disasters — providing better information to help improve humanitarian coordination and save lives. RescUAV offers support for search and rescue teams, local governments and other humanitarian actors to save lives. GlobalMedic’s RescUAV initiative works to improve disaster response in four critical ways:


 

Search & Rescue

RescUAV supports rescuers in their fight to save lives, by:

     • Capturing aerial imagery to locate survivors

     • Using thermal imagery to locate survivors

     • Operating Ground Penetrating Radar to locate survivors

     • Collecting imagery inside buildings to locate survivors

     • Assessing structural damage and integrity


 

Situational Awareness

RescUAV broadcasts real time information, allowing responders to make informed decisions to quickly get aid to those who need it most, by:

     • Tracking population movements to direct aid deliveries

     • Planning access and evacuation routes

     • Identifying access barriers, such as a landslide that has cut off a community

     • Identifying immediate hazards


 

Emergency Mapping

RescUAV gathers aerial imagery to produce detailed maps that provide invaluable data, by:

     • Creating comprehensive damage assessments of disaster zones

     • Surveying refugee camps to plan infrastructure and expansion

     • Assessing agriculture to support food security

     • Helping communities plan the rebuilding process

     • Identifying hazards to reduce the impact of future disasters

RescUAV uses innovative UAV technology to provide desperately needed aid to isolated communities, by:

     • Delivering aid quickly to the hardest to reach communities

     • Delivering essential medications and other relief items

     • Delivering communication devices
