SYRIA: REFUGEE CRISIS | EMERGENCY FOOD KIT RESPONSE

As we enter the ninth year of the war in Syria, civilians continue to bear the brunt of the conflict. Over 13.1 million Syrians are in need and of those, nearly half – or 6.5 million – are food insecure.

On Saturday, February 23, 2019, GlobalMedic partnered with Danby Appliances to pack over 68,000 meals as part of our Emergency Food Program. Over 200 volunteers from the Guelph area worked together in the Danby Appliances warehouse to assemble and package these meals.

GlobalMedic’s Emergency Food Program helps to support Syrian families affected by the war to meet the basic need of nutrition. This is accomplished through the distribution of Emergency Food Kits. These kits deliver a calorically dense meal, while maintaining the dignity of the beneficiary by providing a culturally appropriate solution.

The Emergency Food Kit is a meal designed by Syrians for Syrians, and is based on a common dish called Mujaddara that contains bulgur, lentils and onions.

These Emergency Food Kits will be shipped to Syria along with Family Emergency Kits to support families displaced by ongoing fighting.
