RescUAV Team departs for Mocoa.

Yesterday, the RescUAV Team flew from Bogota to Mocoa, Colombia to access the landslide affected areas. Upon landing, the team met with the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management of Colombia (UNGRD). Over the next two weeks, RescUAV will be capturing imagery of the most affected areas and creating detailed emergency maps. This data will be shared with the local government and other relief agencies to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the overall response.

The severe landslides were triggered in part due to two surging rivers that run through the city. The team will be mapping the banks of both rivers to help the local government and relief teams plan the rebuilding process, and reduce the risk of future disasters.
