FORT McMURRAY WILDFIRE RESPONSE 2016

A raging wildfire swept through Fort McMurray in early May forcing 94,000 people to be evacuated and leaving 20 per cent of the city in ruins. At its peak, the flames covered 85,000 hectares of land, and had destroyed over 2,400 buildings. The entire city was been forced to flee to neighbouring communities to escape the fire.
Residents were forced to stay in temporary accommodations while emergency workers suppressed the fire and assessed the damage.

GlobalMedic responded to provide hygiene kits and essential household items to people displaced by the fire. A cash assistance program was also provided to 123 families, many of whOM had children with disabilities or special needs.
