DOMINICA

 HURRICANE RESPONSE 2015

On August 27, 2015, Tropical Storm Erika hit the island nation of Dominica, causing flooding and landslides. 20 people were killed and nearly 600 people were left homeless.

Many roadways on the island were impassable, and a number of bridges were completely destroyed. Many communities were without electricity or potable water, and most concerning, 50% of the island was without water provision.

Families were in great need of access to clean drinking water after flooding contaminated water sources, and heavy rains and landslides caused damage to infrastructure.

GlobalMedic responded, and delivered 640 Rainfresh household water purification units and 640 Hygiene Kits that provided clean water for 640 families and ensured their health was protected.
