 SYRIAN REFUGEE CRISIS RESPONSE 2015

By May 2015, more than 42,000 refugees had arrived by sea in Greece, and  1,000 more arrive each day. Migrants are fleeing a variety of human rights abuses including war and extreme violence.

An overwhelmed Greek economy is unable to provide access to basic services including healthcare, shelter or food.  Living conditions are dire, with overcrowding causing poor hygiene conditions accompanied by a lack of food. Many families sleep outdoors in public spaces or in abandoned buildings without electricity or running water.  Families are at high risk of contracting illness.  GlobalMedic’s Rapid Response Team is implementing programming through the immediate delivery of Emergency Support Kits including both a Food Pack and Hygiene Kit.
