The David McAntony Gibson Foundation, which operates as GlobalMedic, is a registered Canadian charity. Our mandate is to save lives by providing short-term, rapid response in the wake of disasters and crises, both at home and abroad.
Toronto Paramedic Rahul Singh founded the David McAntony Gibson Foundation (DMGF) in the spring of 1998 in honour of his best friend, who tragically lost his life on February 7, 1998. David was a remarkable man. Always caring, compassionate and dedicated, David believed in taking the time to help those around him both near and far.
In keeping with his spirit DMGF was created to embody those same qualities. Our motto is “Serving the Global Community”, and we strive at all times to live up to the standard of our namesake by being an efficient aid agency that delivers the maximum amount of aid with a minimum operating cost.
GlobalMedic was founded on Emergency Response. While we have run many non-emergency and capacity building programs, the majority of our work continues to be critical intervention in the wake of disaster and crisis. We operate 6 primary Emergency Programs:
All 6 programs have a range of components and are all highly scalable to the size of the crisis. The programs are also modular, meaning that we can activate as many or as few as needed in whatever combination the situation demands. All programs can be deployed both domestically in Canada and abroad to help people in need.
GlobalMedic’s internationally deployable Rapid Response Team (RRT) is responsible for executing our responses. The RRT is composed of professional emergency workers as well as other skilled and trained professionals, who volunteer their time and skill set in order to deliver aid.
Our goal is always to get the right aid to the right people at the right time. To accomplish this goal, GlobalMedic strives to be innovative in all aspects of our operations. We are constantly exploring new opportunities and revamping existing ideas in order to help more people. We are always looking forward.
At times we may respond with our sister charity, GlobalFire. Their mandate is to strengthen the emergency response capacity of organizations and communities around the world through the provision of equipment and training.
We rely on donations and volunteers in order to carry out our mandate. Please consider joining our team by volunteering, or making a donation. You can help make a difference in the lives of people affected by disaster and conflict.
