While GlobalMedic began with medical care, clean water is now – by far – the most important element of our responses.
Why Water?
It is far more effective to prevent illness than it is to treat it, and much more cost-efficient as well. By providing clean drinking water to families in crisis, we have helped save lives and prevented illness for thousands.
We ensure access to clean drinking water with a number of different items which can be deployed separately or combined to best meet the needs of the response.
GlobalMedic immediately deploys and operates ‘point of source’ or ‘community’ water purification systems to ensure groups have access to large volumes of clean drinking water. We have different sizes of systems which use different power sources. Our Rapid Response Team installs these systems at central points such as hospitals, schools or shelters.
GlobalMedic produces and delivers Family Emergency Kits (FEK) designed to provide families with a holistic solution to deal with multiple problems they face following a disaster. An FEK always starts with a ‘point of use’ (or household) water purification solution. We then add other items including basic hygiene supplies such as toothpaste, toothbrushes and soap, oral rehydration sachets, solar lights, and Lucky Iron Fish. Volunteers pack the kits as part of our efforts to lower costs.
Providing clean water alone is not always enough. GlobalMedic also runs hygiene programs to support the health of those facing emergencies. These efforts include domestic efforts like The Soap Revolution and our Shelter Support program.
