Over 45,000 people were displaced from their homes due to raging wildfires in British Columbia in July 2017. Evacuated families are staying at 11 emergency reception centres opened across the province. As of July 15, 2017, over 2,600 evacuees were registered in Kamloops, which brought the Emergency Social Service (ESS) Reception Centre at the Sandman Centre near to capacity.
