Wildfires in Canada are growing more intense and destructive each year. Record-breaking fire seasons have burned millions of hectares, displaced thousands of Canadians, and placed enormous strain on local firefighting resources. Entire communities have been evacuated. Critical infrastructure has been lost, and Indigenous communities in Northern Ontario have had to relocate their most vulnerable members to escape hazardous wildfire smoke.
The last number of fire seasons have shown that the incidence of wildfire in Canada is increasing. Moreover, the wildfire season is starting earlier and ending later with an increased risk of fires burning through the winter months due to dry conditions. These changes are placing enormous strain on rural and volunteer fire departments, which are often the first to respond when disaster strikes. Many of these departments operate with limited staff and aging equipment, yet they are tasked with defending vast areas of land and protecting lives under increasingly severe conditions.
How We Are Helping: Fire Skids
GlobalMedic is working to meet this challenge by supporting wildfire relief efforts across Canada. Our team is partnering with rural and volunteer fire departments to provide urgently needed firefighting equipment, increasing their capacity to respond quickly and effectively to fast-moving fires. A central part of this response is the deployment of fire skid units, self-contained systems that transform a pickup truck or utility vehicle into a small, maneuverable fire truck. Each fire skid includes a 1,000-litre water tank, a high-pressure pump, and hose, allowing crews to operate in rugged terrain and reach areas inaccessible to full-sized engines and pumpers.
These fire skid units are already making a difference. This year, GlobalMedic has delivered an additional 75 fire skid units to frontline departments across wildfire-prone regions, including 32 in British Columbia, 14 in Alberta, 16 in Manitoba, and 13 in Saskatchewan, bringing the total number of fire skids delivered to 308 across Canada, including in the Yukon and Northwest Territories. These units are now in service, helping protect lives, halt the spread of wildfires, and support neighboring communities when emergencies escalate.

The need for more firefighting equipment in Canada is urgent. Fire seasons are growing more dangerous, and while more personnel are being trained and deployed, having enough apparatus to match those teams is critical. Without the right tools, even experienced firefighters cannot mount a safe or effective response. Supporting local fire departments with the right gear allows them to protect their own communities and support others during times of crisis.
When you donate to GlobalMedic, you are directly contributing to Canada’s wildfire response. Your support helps ensure that rural and volunteer firefighters have the equipment they need to act swiftly and save lives. It means communities are no longer left waiting for outside help. It means smaller towns can take control of their own response, protect homes and families, and prevent disasters from growing larger.
