Ongoing political turmoil, socio-economic instability and an ongoing humanitarian crisis in Venezuela has triggered the largest displacement in Latin America’s recent history. Since 2015, approximately 4.5 million refugees and migrants have left the country seeking a more stable situation elsewhere. Thousands are fleeing on foot, without knowledge of their final destination.
Many of the displaced population have entered Ecuador, with some moving on to destinations like Chile while others are remaining in the country itself. There are approximately 330,000 Venezuelan migrants and refugees being hosted in Ecuador.
